Technical Services
Vulcan is committed to setting new industry standards
for quality, service and technical support. We stand behind this commitment
through our quality control programs that provide ongoing statistical
information at each of our facilities. This information is used to help
adjust our production processes so that our products will consistently
meet or exceed customer specifications. Since many of these specifications
vary by state or locality, each of our operating divisions employs a staff
of highly trained engineers, quality control managers and materials technicians.
In addition, Vulcan employs a highly trained staff of civil engineers,
geologists and laboratory technicians at our Technical Services Center
(TSC) located in Birmingham, Alabama. Formed in 1963, the TSC handles
much of the research and testing that is non-routine in nature. Their
services are not for hire as with commercial laboratories, but are available
as a support service to our customers. If necessary, our TSC staff can
work with commercial laboratories or third-party technical specialists.
The TSC is located in a new state-of-the-art facility
located approximately one mile from Vulcan’s corporate headquarters
(see map below). The facility contains offices, training and conference
rooms, laboratory space and a library. The TSC is equipped to conduct
standard physical tests, chemical analysis, and research evaluation for
the products that we sell. The TSC has been DOT certified in several
states and is currently accredited by the AASHTO Materials Reference Lab, Cement and
Concrete Reference Lab and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
